ARC refrigerant licence
Refrigerant handling in Australia requires an Australian Refrigeration Council licence. Venting refrigerant to atmosphere is illegal and environmentally serious — we recover it properly on every removal.
Mr Cool Mr Heat has been keeping Melbourne homes comfortable for over a decade. The person who quotes your job works for the same business as the person who installs it — and the same business you ring two summers later.
Our goal is simple enough to state: every home in Melbourne should have access to dependable, environmentally sound and affordable heating and cooling. Nobody should have to choose between a comfortable house and an energy bill they can live with.
In practice that has meant leaning hard into efficient reverse cycle split systems and cassette air conditioners, supplied and installed by our own team. Melbourne's climate suits heat pumps almost perfectly, and swapping a tired old unit for a modern inverter through our new for old replacement service is one of the biggest levers most households have on running costs. We have helped customers avoid well over ten thousand kilograms of CO₂ through those upgrades.

Efficient timely and expert installation of our Mitsubishi split system. So much better for health and pocket than cumbersome gas ducted heating. Thankyou

We have been installing heating and cooling for Melbourne households for over a decade, working from our base in Bayswater. In that time the work has shifted considerably — a job that was once mostly cooling-only installs is now dominated by reverse cycle split and cassette systems, new for old replacements and cleaning and sanitising, driven by running costs and healthier indoor air.
Yes. Refrigerant handling is carried out under Australian Refrigeration Council licence L126509, we are registered with the Building and Plumbing Commission (116236), and all electrical work is performed by our registered electrical contractor (REC 27289). Every job comes with a compliance certificate. We carry public liability insurance and our licence numbers are published in the footer of every page on this site so you can verify them.
Our installations are carried out by our own team. This matters more than it sounds: when a business subcontracts to whoever is cheapest that week, the person who quoted your job is not the person who does it, and neither is accountable when something needs attention two summers later. The same business quotes, installs and answers the phone afterwards.
Melbourne's eastern and south-eastern suburbs, from our Bayswater base — Knox, Maroondah, Whitehorse, Manningham and Monash, plus the south-east for larger jobs. The full list is on our service areas page. If your suburb is not listed, call us; we very likely still cover it.
We install Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Midea, and clean and sanitise most other major brands. We are deliberately not tied to a single manufacturer, so the recommendation you get is based on the capacity you need, the noise limits at your boundary, the controller you want to live with and your budget — not on which brand pays the best margin that quarter.
Yes. On every new for old replacement we recover the refrigerant from the old unit as the law requires, remove the indoor and outdoor units, and take them away for recycling. Where the existing brackets and pipework test sound we can often reuse them, which keeps the price down. See our new for old replacement page for how it works.
Fixed written quotes, with the make, model, capacity, indoor and outdoor locations, pipe run, electrical work and make-good all listed. No “from” pricing, no “or equivalent” on the model, and no day-of surprises. If we find something genuinely unexpected once we open up a wall or get into a roof, we stop and talk to you before we proceed.
Yes — ask us at the assessment and we will show you comparable jobs, and where customers are happy to be contacted we can put you in touch. We would rather you spoke to someone with the same house type and the same problem than looked at a stock photo. You can also see recent updates on our Facebook page.
Free assessment, honest advice on what your home actually needs, and a fixed price in writing.
Whether it is a quote, a second opinion on someone else's quote, or a question about cleaning an old unit — we are happy to talk it through.
